Who am I?

Hi, I'm Alex! I've been working in and around IT systems for over 15 years now, across a number of industries. Currently, I'm an IT security professional leading an identity and access management team, where I've seen firsthand the security and privacy tools available to protect businesses and secure their employees' accounts.

In that line of work, I'm constantly asking the same questions: who or what has more access than they need, what risk does that create, how do we catch it when something looks unusual, and how can we make it even better. As the importance of this work has grown, it got me wondering what my own phone was quietly allowing. Businesses have all these tools available to them, but who's looking out for individual people, especially in the age of AI? Looking into it, I found that traditional consumer security tools just don't cover the realm of identity and access management well. That realization is what led me to my first solo project, Valia.

Working on Valia has taught me so much and sparked several new ideas that I'm excited to explore beyond the privacy and security space. As much as I enjoyed learning new technologies during this journey into mobile app development, it wasn't the only thing that drove me. The process itself spoke to me at my core. Revisiting past decisions, reworking code, and refining features as my knowledge grows and better solutions reveal themselves mirrors the mindset I've lived by for years: continuous improvement.
